IC:

Character name: Miku Hatsune
Fandom: Vocaloid
Timeline: 2010, with two years in Mayfield under her belt.
Age: Looks around 16 or so, but is actually five years old.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Same as any other Vocaloid! Miku's a bit stronger than an average human, and definitely more durable. She can also interface with computers and such, and she can run off her batteries for quite a while, plus she doesn't really need food and drink, though she still eats and drinks. Mostly leeks.

However, she was, quite literally, made for singing. In the hands of a good producer, she can sing very well, as seen here and here. There's far more than just those two, though, but to list them all is impossible, and anyway, not all producers are that good. Her voice is a bit high-pitched and cutesy, and there's something distinctly robotic about its quality.

Also, if it involves leeks, she can cook it. She can also make leek juice. Don't ask me how. She is also quite possibly the only one who has somehow managed to turn leeks into a weapon.
How would they use their abilities?: To build up her fanbase from scratch. Again. Mostly she's just around to get into shenanigans and put on concerts.
Appearance: Typically, she looks like this: a typical sixteen-year-old idol girl with very long blue-green hair tied into twintails. Her typical outfit is a sleeveless collared shirt with a blue tie, plus detached sleeves, a short skirt, and very high boots. She has a huge amount of clothes besides just that, though, as seen in the Project Diva games.
Background/Personality:
Background:

Miku was created, back in 2007, by Crypton Future Media, after Meiko and Kaito, who weren't really all that successful in the business. Thus, it was a bit of a shock to everyone when she shot to stardom and managed to gain a huge fanbase, leaving her predecessors (and her successors) in the dust.

With the release of her Append, and her status as pop idol and most popular Vocaloid secured, 2010 seemed like the year of smooth sailing for her.

And then, in December, she woke up human and stuck in Mayfield, thought of as the daughter of Vince Noir. She took it a bit better than most, but then she hadn't gotten subjected to the horrors of Mayfield yet. Unfortunately, that innocence wasn't going to last for long, because just a few days after she woke up in Mayfield, Christmas came, and twisted the wishes of many, many people. Miku, thankfully, was excluded, simply because she hadn't managed to send in her wishlist.

The New Year came, and with it, a chance to get out of the town that had kidnapped her, in the form of ballots. They were quite simple, really: did she want to get out of Mayfield, or not? She checked yes, sent it in, and waited. And waited. And waited.

Turns out, it didn't work. Some people hadn't wanted to go after all, though there was a lot of doubt whether the ballots were ever real or not. Whatever it was, it meant Miku was going to be sticking around for a while, so she figured, why not make the most of it? This, for one thing, meant joining a band started up by Bugs Bunny and Scott Pilgrim as the lead singer. (No, really. For the record, Vince did not approve.)

Then February came by, and for Valentine's Day, Miku, Hayato Gokudera and Charlie Gage-Radcliffe aka Misfit were whammied into thinking they'd been in a threesome. Most awkward V-Day ever, really, and to this day, Miku refuses to talk about it, though she managed to strike up a friendship with Charlie.

Nothing much really happened, till March, because then there was an event (that ended up being nothing more than an April Fool's joke) that, seemingly, gave the captives a chance to get out. Unfortunately, Miku was killed by way of Gundam while trying to take advantage of this, being crushed underneath a tree and then burned. Granted, she came back pretty quickly, but dying had shaken her up.

For a little while, anyway. Somewhere along the way, she met Guy of the Kutolah, and they struck up a friendship that then turned into something more. Also, she entered the running for Prom Queen against Rin and, shockingly, lost, which reminded her that she'd been slacking, and had to build up a fanbase from scratch.

For some time, nothing really noteworthy happened, besides the fact that Father's Day brought the opportunity to boss around Vince. (And a few dronings, which reminded her to always, always treasure the moments she managed to get with her friends.)

And then she got a letter in the mail that boiled down to this: Kill this person. Thus the Spring Cleaning event began, but Miku was not about to participate, reasoning that she was not a yandere. Thankfully, she managed to survive throughout the event, though a little worse off.

Come the 4th of July, though, she found herself trying to ignore a little voice in her head that kept insisting what she knew was not true: that she'd been born and raised in Mayfield. For the most part, she succeeded, but occasionally she slipped up. While the droning was wearing off, though, she came across Jane Smith, also known as Samantha Achewood, wandering the town, and sang for her.

The next day, Jane was found dead, and didn't come back. Miku sang for her again, and mourned her passing.

The rest of July was rather uneventful, save for confessing her feelings to Guy, who returned them, (thanks to Mayfield having laced the air with a truth serum, though their relationship didn't really become official till a month later), and then, one day, she got her robotic frame back. And just in time for her anniversary concert, too.

September brought a zombie apocalypse. No, really. As Miku was now immune to them, though, she managed to survive the month. She did, however, decide she very much needed to learn self-defense.

October came, and brought bad news--Vince Noir, who Miku had grown to see as something of a father figure, had been droned. She was reminded, all over again, to treasure every moment she spent with her friends. A while later, she found herself stuck in what was basically a cheap B-movie for Halloween, but the real horror came in December, a little while after she managed to regain her Append frame.

For the second time in her life, Miku woke up human. She didn't take it well, again, and it only worsened when she heard the announcement on the people who had volunteered to be erased from existence. They did come back, eventually, after they got a peek at the world outside and most, including Miku, died from radiation poisoning, but that was followed up by Guy's droning, which hit her rather hard.

Mayfield ushered in the New Year by basically knocking out the residents for a few days, waking them up with very shrill alarm bells. Then, in the same month, people managed to break into the Dairy, which was up until then impenetrable, and blew up what turned out to be the revival machine, which basically kept people in Mayfield from dying permanently. This resulted in a wave of experiments by a woman named Dr. Johnson in February, though Miku was lucky not to become one of the victims.

Then there was a rather embarrassing body-swap in April, but Miku (and Caesar Silverberg) will probably never speak of that ever again. No, what was more important was prom coming. Again. And she lost. Again.

Come June (and this one time when she thought she was a character from one of her PVs, long story, and also this other time when Rin turned into a smart zombie and tried to roll her over with her roadroller), Miku got herself caught up in a carnival. Unfortunately, since this was Mayfield, it was the twisted sort of carnival, where people died and the sky glitched and everything basically did not go over too well.

Unbeknownst to her, this started off the end of Mayfield. While Miku didn't have much of a hand in ending it, she did try to get one of the keys to unlocking Annie's (aka the Librarian) memories, though someone else got to it first. She also saw the Mayor's dead body, which was, simply put, not a pretty sight.

Soon enough, though, they managed to overthrow Zemekis, aka Lucy Smith, aka the one behind Mayfield, and from him, they learned the awful truth: they were all copies of the original. Which, basically, meant that Miku didn't have a home to go back to, not really. And, to make things worse, Dr. Johnson--the one who'd started the experiments in February--took over Mayfield, and sent quite a few people on unwilling killing sprees. Miku managed to get past this, and then Annie, who had gone off to get stronger, returned to put a stop to all this, and opened up the highway for them to escape, but stayed behind in order to keep Dr. Johnson company as Mayfield collapsed.

Miku came along, and emerged in a brand new town--one that was unfinished, but waiting to be populated. Annie's last gift to them, basically.

And then someone put a bottle of milk on the machine that kept things running and things blew up, and the next thing she knew she was waking up in another strange place. Again.

Personality:

Miku is, first off, the number one virtual diva, and she is acutely aware of that fact. In fact, she's damn proud of it, and does her best to keep that position and title. She comes off as a bit arrogant and haughty because of it, but her years in Mayfield have tempered that, showing her that there is more than just being the best singer ever to her life. Granted, you won't ever beat out that certainty that she is The Best Vocaloid Ever out of her, nor her competitive streak, but now she's a little less haughty, or arrogant. Or quick to assume that other people know her name.

At the same time, she's actually pretty friendly. This girl will offer others a glass of leek juice and a song, if they've just gone through a tough time. She's also the type of person to try and help out in whatever way she can, be it through a song, leek juice or anything else. She's willing to listen to someone if they need it, and sing for them as well. Sometimes there were ulterior motives (coughfanbasebuildingcough), but most of the time, it really is because she just wants to help in some way.

She's also surprisingly resilient, and not just in the sense that she's an android. She's been through hell and back, lost more than her fair share of loved ones, and even learned that she's a copy of the real Miku, but somehow she manages to bounce back to her normal, cheery self. It's not to say that she doesn't feel the pain of loss for long, because she does, but she knows how to move on and live her life, even after having lost the people she loved and been subjected to the worst.

She's normally rather cheery and somewhat cautiously optimistic, and it takes quite a fair bit to bring that mood down (i.e. dying, people getting droned). However, she also has something of a temper--if you piss her off, expect a leekslapping in the future.

Miku also happens to absolutely love music. And why not? She was made for it, after all. Yes, she loves her fans, and she loves the cheers of the crowd, but she loves singing most of all. It makes her feel better and keeps her going when she's going through a rough time, even if it's just humming or tapping out a beat. And in times when she's not having a hard time, well, she still sings a bit.

She also has a competitive streak, like I said before. If you're a fellow idol or Vocaloid, most likely she'll strive to beat you. These days it's mostly friendly competition, but when it comes to Vocaloids--Miku in particular--it's kind of hard to tell if it's friendly or serious. Certainly, even if--no, wait, especially if you're family, when it comes to singing or popularity competitions, she's not willing to go down without a fight.

She has, however, learned to value every moment she spends with her family and friends. She's lost them too many times, back in Mayfield. She'll be damned if she passes up an opportunity to just hang out with them, especially if they could, at any moment, disappear.

So, in summation, Miku, while still a cheery virtual diva, has grown up and matured somewhat, in her stay in Mayfield.

Why should that character be in this game: For OCs only.

Why do you want to continue their history here: Because in Mayfield, Miku has had to live knowing that, at any moment, something horrific could happen. On the S.S. Thor, she can relax, kick back, and focus on building up her fanbase and making friends, without worrying if she's going to die horribly along the way.

For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:

Have you read up on how the game works?: Yep. The journal plug-in for the Guide is called the FlamingFerret, and Miku can work, steal or just mooch off somebody.

1st person sample: (lifted and slightly changed from a previous post in [community profile] mayfield_rpg to meet standards, tell me if you need anything more!)

Okay, I'm probably just repeating what a lot of people said before here, but can you please stop yelling at each other? Okay, so whoever blew up the Dairy may have made a really big mistake, but I'm pretty sure yelling at them won't fix anything. It's not like something important exploded, right?

[She sighs. Of course, she is a robot, so it's not like the whole reviving thing mattered much to her. Except...well, it did, when she was human. She remembers dying all too well.]

...or maybe it was really important. Still, I think we have to at least try to stick together, instead of shouting at each other.

Oh, yeah. I'm not sure if anyone's in the mood right now, but you can come over to my house if you want some leek juice and a song. [sigh.]

3rd person sample:

The thing about the S.S. Thor was...well, compared to her stay in Mayfield, it wasn't so bad. She hadn't died once while on the ship, so that was a point in its favor, even if it didn't have her friends (and she hoped, so very badly, that they'd survived whatever had destroyed the new town they were living in). The things that happened here were less horrific and more hilarious, especially when you weren't on the receiving end.

Still, there were days when all she wanted to do was to go back home.

"What do you mean, there's no leeks left?"

The shopkeeper shook his head. "I'm sorry, ma'am," he said, "but there was a break-in just a few days past, and they took all of the leeks. Perhaps we can interest you in some spring onions instead?"

She glared at him for a moment, then sighed. "No," she flatly said. "But when are you going to be able to sell leeks again?"

"In a week or so. You must really like leeks, huh?"

She nodded. "Yeah, I do." She looked around--this was the nearest shop that sold vegetables, and she didn't really want to have to look for another one, but it seemed as if she didn't have a choice. "Hey, do you know any other shops around that sell Earth vegetables?"

The shopkeeper looked distinctly uncomfortable. "W-Well, there are a few," he began, "like old Tom's, a floor below--"

"Great!" she chirped. "Can you give me directions, then? It's my turn to cook dinner tonight, and I really need to get leeks."

A few minutes later, she walked away from the shop, a piece of paper containing directions to a shop called Old Tom's. With luck, she'd find leeks there, and then she'd be able to whip up a delicious and healthy dinner tonight.
